Interieur 08. Kortrijk (BE)

A week ago I went to the Interieur 08 Biennale, Kortrijk (BE)/
I think it’s really worth visiting for anyone looking for ideas, solutions or just inspiration.
The guest of honour this year was Jaime Hayon

The next edition of the Interieur Biennale will take place from 15 till 24 October 2010.

Jaime Hayon

Jaime Hayon is one of a new breed of designer and artist, who not only blures the lines between art and design, but also questions what design actually is by pushing the boundaries of his materials. Thanks to his interdisciplinary approach and extraordinary talent, he has been able to realize his unique stylistic language across various areas and media.
This exhibit for Interieur 08, is a journey through his world.

After Van Eyck. Devorah Sperber (USA)

Interested in the links between art, science, and technology through the ages, New York artist, Devorah Sperber
use ordinary spools of thread and creates pixilated, inverted images of masterpieces, which appear as colorful abstractions. When viewed with optical devices, however, the works becomes immediately recognizable as the famous paintings.
It makes me immediately think about Dr Woohoo (the very last picture) and his project in the mod wich studies a color palettes.

Freitag

FREITAG products are made from original recycled materials – used truck tarps, used car seat belts, used air bags and used bicycle inner tubes. And because it is made from an original piece of tarp, every single product has its own, individual design.

This lamp is manufactured from subtle materials as wool, jacquard and optical fibre. They are flexible in the sense that they can easily switch colour of function.

While I was in Kortrijk I decide to visit this exhibition too (Prijs voor Vormgeving van de Provincie West-Vlaanderen) which apparently takes place every 4 years. I was nicely surprised to see the works of my teachers J.W. Hespeel en R. Sabbe. They always provide really beautiful typographical layouts. Besides you could also buy a book "Graphic Mic-Mac".
